Peerla provides a client interface to host a star-topology peer-to-peer connection between participants in a secure, encrypted, and private way. We do not collect, store, or process personal data ourselves. Messages travel directly between your device and your contacts' devices.
Peerla does not track you. We do not use analytics, advertising trackers, or any third-party scripts that monitor your behavior. We have no way to know who you are, what you chat about, or when you use the app.
We do not store any user data. We do not have accounts, so there is no profile to store. We do not store your messages — they go directly from your device to your contacts' devices. We do not store your name, email, phone number, or any other identifying information.
The only time we store any data is when you create a room and use a short invite link. In that case, we temporarily store the technical data (WebRTC offer) needed for your contacts to connect to your room. This data:
If you share a long encoded link instead of a short one, we store nothing at all.
We do not use cookies for tracking or analytics. The app uses your browser's localStorage to store data locally on your device: your display name, pinned notes, and — if you are a joiner — encrypted copies of messages. This data lives entirely on your computer in your browser. It is not our service and we have no access to it. It never leaves your device to our servers.
Because we do not collect or process personal data, the GDPR's requirements for legal basis are largely inapplicable. The ephemeral technical data we store (when you use a short invite link) is not personal data — it contains no identifiers linking to you. To the extent any processing could be considered to involve personal data, we rely on the necessity to perform our contract with you (providing the connection service).
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, you have rights including access, rectification, erasure, portability, and the right to object. Because we do not store personal data about you, we typically have nothing to provide, correct, or delete. You may exercise your rights or lodge a complaint by contacting us at info@peerla.chat. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
We do not hold personal data. In the unlikely event of a breach affecting the ephemeral technical data we store, we would assess impact and notify the relevant supervisory authority where required by law.
We use Pusher for real-time connection notifications when a contact joins. The notification contains no message content or personal data — only a signal that a connection is ready. We use a Redis provider (Upstash) to store the ephemeral invite data described above. Both are used only for the minimal technical purpose of connecting devices.
